Renault Captur production to continue - renault captur
Cambolive describes the Captur as a "very complimentary car" to the Renault 4 and Symbioz.

The Renault Captur will continue to be produced until 2035, according to Renault’s CEO, Fabrice Cambolive. The Captur is a key part of Renault’s strategy to offer both hybrid and electric vehicles. Despite being the firm’s oldest car, the Captur remains a popular model, with over 100,000 units expected to be sold this year.

Cambolive describes the Captur as a “very complimentary car” to the Renault 4 and Symbioz. Introduced in 2013, the Captur was an instant success, with its spacious interior and bold colour palette. European sales peaked at 223,000 in 2019, but have since declined, even with the introduction of a second-generation model in 2020 and a facelift in 2024.

Cambolive describes the Captur as one of the firm’s “flagship” hybrid models, defending Renault’s hybrid technology. The company chose to focus on full hybrid and battery electric vehicle (BEV) offerings, rather than diesel or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options. The Captur supports this strategy, and Cambolive believes it has a future until 2035.

A next-generation Renault Clio is expected to arrive in the UK soon, with a modern interior and new design direction. Cambolive stated that Renault wants to continue with the Captur and will defend the model, but it is too soon to announce specific plans.

Electric Vehicle Market

The similarly-sized Renault 4 EV is also just starting to gain traction. So far, UK sales of the 4 have been a third of the Renault 5, which is now the French firm’s best-selling car here. Cambolive believes that the R4 was launched too early, but the “massive arrival of new product in the B-SUV space” is good news for Renault, with models such as the Skoda Epiq and Kia EV2 set to help this segment grow significantly. Cambolive said that the EV sales share in the R4’s class is currently 12%, compared to 18% for the R5 and well behind the 30% electric share in the larger C-SUV segment.
