The Leapmotor B03X has claimed the title of Australia’s cheapest electric SUV, overtaking the BYD Atto 2. Arriving in showrooms from November 2026, the B03X Style starts at $26,990 before on-road costs, undercutting the Atto 2 Dynamic by $5,000. A drive-away price of $29,990 is available for vehicles delivered by December 31, 2026, in the standard Acorn Brown paint. The B03X slots in under the B10, a small SUV among the larger models in its segment, and the mid-size C10.
Performance and Range
The base Style model features a 39.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a 292km WLTP range. It supports 11kW AC and 100kW DC charging, powering a 130kW front-mounted electric motor with 200Nm of torque. This setup delivers a 0-100km/h time of 8.6 seconds. The Design Long Range model, priced at $30,990 plus on-roads, upgrades to a 53kWh battery with a 382km range and 133kW DC charging. It offers slightly more power at 145kW but maintains the same 0-100km/h acceleration.
Practical Features
Both models include 3.3kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing users to power small appliances. The B03X measures 4270mm in length, 1810mm in width, and has a 2605mm wheelbase, making it 40mm shorter and 20mm narrower than the Atto 2 with a 15mm shorter wheelbase. It features Leap Flex seats, which enable the bases of the 60:40-split/folding rear seats to lift upwards, accommodating bulky items. A 105L waterproof compartment, named the Leap Box, is located beneath the boot floor. The cabin offers 33 storage spaces, and the boot space expands to 1315L when the rear seats are folded down.
Standard Equipment and Warranty
Standard features on the Style model include automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, NFC and Bluetooth key access, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite navigation. Safety features comprise autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. The Design Long Range model adds 18-inch alloy wheels, front and side parking sensors, a 360-degree dashcam, and a 12-speaker sound system. Leapmotor provides a six-year, 150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty, and eight years of roadside assistance. Servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first, though pricing isn’t yet available.
The B03X offers a choice of premium paint finishes for $990, including Seaweed Green, Berry Blue, Rime Beige, Galaxy Silver, and Tundra Grey. The Style model comes with a Currant Black interior, while the Design LR offers a choice between Currant Black and Oat Grey. Its introduction signifies a notable shift in Australia’s electric vehicle market, providing consumers with an affordable entry point into sustainable transportation.
