Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar exchanged blows on pit road following the 2026 Bristol Bass Pro Shops Night Race, turning the dramatic conclusion into a physical altercation that eclipsed the celebration of the win.
Scuffle Breaks Out
Blaney did not wait long to confront Hocevar after the 500-lap event, with the fight igniting immediately when Blaney placed his hand on Hocevar’s right shoulder. In response, Hocevar threw a right cross, seized Blaney’s driver’s suit by the collar, and landed another right hook. Blaney went to the ground and was hauled away by a team crew member. Once free, Blaney circled back to Hocevar and threw a left jab before NASCAR officials stepped in to break up the pair and lead Blaney off.
“There wasn’t a whole lot of talking,” Hocevar said. “He just kind of said one thing and then went after me, and I wasn’t going to take it.”
Blaney stated he had not had an issue with Hocevar for about a year and a half, “but it’s getting old.”
On-Track Tangle Causes Spin
The on-track incident that sparked the post-race brawl took place on lap 458 as Blaney and Hocevar battled for second place. Blaney moved low in front of Hocevar, who refused to yield the spot, tapped Blaney, and spun him into the wall.
The crash not only sent Blaney to a 33rd-place finish but also likely ended his bid for the title, dropping him to sixth in the points, 52 markers behind leader Kyle Larson.

“I protected pretty early and he just kept coming left and never lifted and crashed me,” Blaney said about the accident. “I didn’t chop him. I didn’t run him into the fence or nothing like I easily could have. I protected the bottom and he just decided he wanted to be there and didn’t lift and wrecked me.”
Logano Wins Season’s Third Race
Simultaneously, Joey Logano climbed to third in the standings with his third win of the season, closing within 16 points of the lead with seven races left in the Chase.
With seven laps to go, Logano moved inside of Ty Gibbs and Hocevar, who were racing for the lead, to secure the top position. He faced no further competition, crossing the finish line 1.248 seconds ahead of Larson.
“At the end of the race you make the decision every lap, do you want to run the top or the bottom, and a lot of it’s always depending on what’s going on in the windshield or in the rear-view mirror,” Logano said. “In this case, I seen they were two wide for the lead. I thought he (Larson) was going to go to the bottom and then he went up. I was like, OK, I’ll just do the opposite, I’ll go to the bottom. Hopefully, they wash each other out, and that’s exactly what happened.”
“It kind of came full circle from last week when you feel like you got beat at the end and not much you can do about it, and this time they all just kind of cleared the way and the seas parted for me and around I went.”
When the Chase started at Darlington, Logano was ranked ninth, 65 points behind top seed Hamlin. Currently, he is part of a group of four drivers within 17 points of the championship lead. Larson holds a one-point edge over Hamlin, who had led the standings since late June. Christopher Bell, who finished fourth, trails by 17 points.
